Clam Shrimp (Orders Laevicaudata,Spinicaudata and Cyclestherida)

Clam shrimp are a group of unique bivalved branchiopods that have no relation to molluscan bivalves. Clam shrimp can be found worldwide, mostly in vernal pools and other small bodies of water, where the filter the water for passing nutrients and food. Like other branchiopods like the infamous Daphnia clam shrimp have several rows of legs which they use to swim trough the water. When threatened the clam shrimp like a true clam can close its hardy shell and will drift to the bottom until it is safe.

Hume - Passion as the Foundation of Reason

It is a common misconception among men that passion is an unfavorable deterrent of reason. Passion is arguably the natural way of perceiving and reacting to an internal or external stimulus. This is contrary to the modern idea of reason, which is the means of logically evaluating these stimuli and acting in a means that represses the motion of passion. The statement made is that using reason as a triumph over the blind, purely emotional basis of passion is the favorable means of achieving a virtuous moral sense. This idea that the assessment of right and wrong be left to the logic of reason instead of the feelings of passion is refuted by Hume. In Reason and Passion he states “…’tis impossible that the distinction betwixt moral good and evil can be made by reason; since that distinction has an influence upon our actions, of which reason alone is incapable.” Stating that reasoning brings the best moral outcome is faulted, for that belief alone influences the moral decisions of the individual.

This idea that reason rings true over passion is faulted, and agreement in part with Hume must be made. The very basis of reason is rooted in the passions- for if man had no emotional passion to give care to the idea of right and wrong, the concept of reason being the ideal means of perceiving emotion, and reason itself, would not exist. Of which is also said by Hume, all ideas that occur in the mind are resulting from perceptions of the exterior, as well as the internal impressions within an individual that such experiences make. Before the human construct of reason was realized, how was it to be perceived by the individual in the exterior environment? It was not, and as such it is a passion of man in itself, for reason does not exist in the physical realm. The passion of feeling what seems to be right or wrong is determined by the reaction of the individual to a particular experience. Until it is proven by reason that these feelings are incorrect or unsound, a being will continue to rely on feeling. It is only when these feelings are evaluated for their meaning and truthfulness that reason becomes a practiced principle of good judgment.
